Mooching around wiki stuff to see if it's any use to what I want to do.

I'll give it a try. No doubt I'll get confused and not get anywhere. I'm vaguely thinking about routes + pics of routes + news/stuff that anyone can add to. Local rather than national though. My guess is it'll never happen :0)
- Drupal is good for building community sites too. Have you looked at that?

Most people who try to do it end up with a blog/frontpage that never changes and a few routes and not much more. This guy is doing the best I've seen round here but it's not perfect and he hardly ever posts on his blog http://www.mtb-routes.co.uk/
Slightly more inspired to do it as google earth has decent coverage of north york moors now.

- The only pain is that it's only on google earth it works at the moment (oh and via flash earth so geotagging photos is still not easypeasy on flickr
- The great thing about a wiki is that you can just put it up and see what evolves. Much easier than trying to predict the structure you'll need before you start.

- Is this a site I host for you? If so I can set it up for you if you like. It's worth setting up a Captcha otherwise you may get spam. I can also put Wiki Widgets on it - so people can do maps :)
- Of course it is. I was going to stick stuff on levell.eu to fiddle with and then maybe think about moving it later. I'm just trying to work out how to install it. I'll let you know when I run into a brick wall :0)

- Magic! Do you have it set not to allow anonymous edits? You can do it by adding
# Disable anon edits $wgGroupPermissions['*']['edit'] = false;
- to LocalSettings.php if you want to.
- Ta I was just wondering as I could edit anonymously but the captcha works for signing up.
- You need to create an account for yourself, promote yourself to SysOp here and then disable anon edits.
