While I'm on it, GitX allows you to graphically view unstaged and staged
changes. That's yet another way to say "what's changed in the working copy
and what's changed in the index". This will ease some of the confusion about
the index vs the working copy vs the repository.
GitX is an OS X app but its based on gitk which might have the same functionality.
