If the plan is to drop pre 5.6, why not drop 5.6.x too, at least 5.6.1?
Because as Andy notes, people running 5.6 *also* aren't likely to upgrade,
and 5.6.x in turn has issues that are fixed in 5.8.0 (and better still 5.8.1)
