Geo URI Safari Helper
I’ve just knocked up a little geouri helper for Safari that launches geouris in Google Earth. You can download it here. You may need to use the More Internet preference pane to associate the geo: URI scheme with the GeoHelper application.
It’s rough and ready and writing it reminded me just what a comprehensively awful language Applescript is. Let me know if you improve it.
If you get it working here’s where I live.

Quick hack. Proof of concept. No time.

When did you move to Leek? You could have told me. I was ready to Cumbria to see you…

Works for me. HTH. HAND :)
I’ve noticed that if it has to launch GE it doesn’t go to the right location. It works fine for me if GE is already running. It’s not exactly an industrial strength solution though :)
If the geo: uri thing picks up momentum I’ll write a proper despatcher in ObjC.

‘fraid not - it uses a native interface, none of that XUL malarkey :)

You sure you want to give away your exact location on US a US based server?

Works, as you say, if GE is already open.

This little haxxor happens to work with Firefox as well. I’d assume it works for any browser that can launch external apps for any URI it can’t handle itself. Which should be all of them.

Can’t seem to get it to work on Safari /iCab/Demeter/Shiira whether GE is open or not?
iCab supports meta name=”ICBM” and meta name=”geo.position” recognition though to GMaps.
