Wintec Firmware Updated Again

I’ve just learnt (thanks Klaus) that the industrious folks at Wintec have released another firmware upgrade for the WBT 100 and WBT 200. It seems that they’ve taken the opportunity to change the data format - so I’m going to have to update gpsbabel again. I’m guessing that eventually they’ll run out of things to add :)

As I write gpsbabel does not support the new format - so don’t upgrade your firmware just yet. I’m working on a fix and will post as soon as I have one.

Update: Or maybe not… The data format doesn’t seem to have changed - but gpsbabel does now sometimes timeout while the device is erasing its flash memory. I’ve changed the timeout and that change should make it into gpsbabel sometime soon.

    hi,

is it possible to update the firmware via bluetooth….i’m on a mac :)
do you know some soft that can tag a RAW photo file with gps position from a gpx file?

Unfortuntely it’s not currently possible to do a firmware update on anything other than Windows.

Somebody really needs to write an open source firmware update tool - but I don’t really have time to do that at the moment.

is windows running on a mac enough?

  4. Andy Says:

I don’t know I’m afraid. I would imagine that if you’re booting directly into Windows it’ll be fine - not sure about Parallels though.

just tried parallels and it worked like a charm

Thanks for that addition to GPSBabel, I have a new WBT100 with the last firmware in it, so I guest that I cannot use GPSBabel to extract data it yet or the altitude date will be lost. Am I worng?

  7. Andy Says:

That should work if you have the latest version of gpsbabel. Let me know if it doesn’t work.

GPSBabel works perfect with my Wintec WBT100. Just a question about the GPSBabel GUI, it seems that it is not possible to select a com port from the GUI. And also it could be nice to set the file filter to *.tks when Wintec files are selected.

I just tried to download he trackfile out of my WBT-100 (Firmware 3.31.6230.R8) by entering following code using the terminal.

    ./gpsbabel -i wbt -f /dev/cu.BT-GPS-SPPslave-1 -o gpx -F out.gpx

My MacBookPro connects via Bluetotth for some minutes, but finally following answer appears in the terminal

    WBT-100/200: Bad response from unit

Any idea what’s wrong in the cammand line ???
